Ruthenium on carbon-5%

Ruthenium on carbon is used as a catalyst in 

1) Hydrogenation of aldehydes and ketones

2) Hydrogenation of sugars

3) Hydrogenation of carboxylic acids, esters, and anhydrides

4) Partial hydrogenation of aromatics

5) hydrotreatment of fast pyrolysis of oil derived from lignocellulosic biomass.

 6) In combination wth an Amberlyst heat resistant ion-exchange resin, for the hydrogenolysis of glycerol to 1,2-propanediol
